5th Grade MANIFESTO: LET’S CHANGE OUR HABITS AND SAVE THE PLANET

When we see so much rubbish and waste we think how is it possible and what to do change this situation. The 5th F class, from the Aver-o-Mar Schools Cluster, believes in a better world and above all that the main responsible for its destruction – US – can and must also be its protectors.

What kind of environment do we want to leave to the worldly future generations?

What kind of actions can we take to change mindsets and behaviours?

We know what we do wrong, but do we know or do we seek information about possible solutions?

For all this we seek answers, sustainable solutions, simple and easy. The answers are in our HANDS.

I – Digital Technologies Impact

Problem – The population not only misuses technology but also keeps agquiring new decives when it is not necessary, as there are other more economical and environmentally frienly ways.

If you have a new mobile phone at home, why are you going to buy another one?  If your phone has a broken or cracked screen, why would you buy a new one?

Solution – You can use a mobile phone that you have at home that is in good condition, even if it’s not such a new model. You could buy a used mobile phone and sell yours. You can also have your phone repaired.

II – Avoiding Food Waste

Problem – Many people, when eating or drinking, often help themselves as if they were “having bigger eyes than their stomach”. Unfortunately, there are many people going hungry and in adding to this, much of the food is being wasted.

Solution – To reduce food waste we should order the exact amount of food we want.

III – Exchanging items

Problem – Many people buy unnecessary items or in large quantities, such as clothes, toys, shoes.

Solution – To reduce the amount of excessive items we should choose to donate, exchange or sell our items so that they do not end up in the rubbish or in the sea.

IV – Reducing the carbon footprint

Problem – Excess transport used by the population, mainly private transport, has been increasing the carbon footprint. The air is polluted.

Solution – We should use more public transport and share private transport.

V – Reduce Plastics

Problem – The high amount of plastic on the planet has brought health problems to humans and animals and has polluted the environment making it unbearable for some species to survive.

Solution – Instead of using plastic bags we should use Ecobags, always carry a canteen instead of using plastic bottles and use aluminium straws instead of plastic.

VI – Recycling

Problem – People throw their rubbish on the ground or do not recycle properly. Then it all ends up in the sea. There’s a lot of pollution.

Solution – You should recycle (plastic/metal, glass, paper/cardboard, batteries, cooking oil, outdated technologies) so that you can contribute to a better world.
